XFlynn Boulder Opal
Auction terms
Last updated: 3 August 2026. These terms apply to timed online opal auctions operated by XFlynn through xflynn.com.
1. Sale format
Each listing is a timed online auction of a parcel owned and offered by XFlynn. Auction details, opening bid, bid increment, status, scheduled opening and closing times are displayed on the parcel page. All amounts are in Australian dollars.
2. Buyer accounts and eligibility
Bidding is limited to buyers located in Australia. A buyer must register using their real name, email address, mobile number and Australian delivery address. The email address must be verified before bidding.
Each person may use only one buyer account. XFlynn may place an account under review, suspend it or reject bids where information appears duplicated, false, inconsistent or connected with conduct that may interfere with a fair auction. Legitimate household members using the same address may be asked to confirm their details before bidding.
3. Bids are binding
A bid becomes final when it is accepted and recorded by the XFlynn server. Bids cannot be withdrawn after acceptance. By bidding, the buyer agrees to purchase the parcel if they are the highest valid bidder when the auction closes and any reserve stated in the listing has been met. A parcel expressly marked “No reserve” has no reserve condition.
4. Hard closing time
The displayed closing time is final and there are no automatic extensions. A bid is valid only when it has been received and recorded by the XFlynn server before the closing deadline. Beginning or submitting a bid before the deadline does not guarantee that it will arrive in time. The server record controls if there is a timing dispute.
5. Automatic maximum bidding, opening bid, reserve and increments
Buyers enter a private maximum bid. The XFlynn system then bids automatically on that buyer’s behalf, using only the amount needed to keep the buyer leading, in the stated increment, up to the private maximum. The private maximum is not shown publicly.
If two buyers enter the same maximum, the maximum received and recorded first by the XFlynn server takes priority. A buyer who is already leading may increase their private maximum without necessarily changing the displayed bid.
The listing displays the opening bid, current displayed bid and minimum acceptable maximum. Where a reserve applies, the page will indicate whether it has been met and XFlynn may pass in the parcel if it is not met. A listing marked “No reserve” is sold to the highest valid bidder at close, provided at least one valid bid has been accepted.
6. Parcel description
Parcels may contain Western Queensland boulder opal, ironstone matrix, fairystone opal, crystal material, potch and associated host rock as described in the individual listing. The photographs, videos, measurements and written description form part of the listing.
Natural opal and host rock can contain ironstone, potch, sand, inclusions, fractures and other natural features. Colour and brightness may appear different under different lighting, cameras, screens, moisture or viewing angles. Buyers should review the complete listing and ask any material question before the auction closes.
7. Final sale, inspection and returns
All accepted bids are final. XFlynn does not offer returns, refunds or exchanges for change of mind, a later change in the buyer's opinion of value, a decision that the material is not suitable for the buyer's intended cutting or resale, or because the buyer finds another parcel elsewhere.
Rough natural opal and host rock are variable materials. Buyers are responsible for reviewing all listing photographs, videos, weights, descriptions, condition notes and disclosed packaging information, and for asking material questions before bidding.
Nothing in this section or these terms excludes, restricts or modifies any consumer guarantee, right or remedy that cannot lawfully be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. A buyer who believes a parcel has a problem covered by law should contact XFlynn promptly before returning or altering the material.
8. Payment
The verified winning buyer receives the final amount, exact payment deadline and private payment instructions by email and inside their XFlynn buyer account. Unless the listing states otherwise or another arrangement is agreed in writing, payment is due within two business days of the auction closing.
Payment may be made using the methods provided privately to the winner. Ownership does not transfer, and the parcel will not be released, until payment has cleared.
9. Collection, local delivery and Australian shipping
The successful buyer may arrange collection, local delivery where available, or tracked shipping to an Australian address approved by XFlynn. XFlynn does not ship internationally. The parcel is not released or dispatched until the purchase price, postage and any requested carrier cover have cleared in full.
Unless the parcel listing expressly states otherwise, the buyer pays the actual quoted postage, signature service and any optional carrier Extra Cover, transit cover or equivalent protection requested by the buyer. Optional cover is subject to the carrier's limits, exclusions, evidence requirements and claims process. It is not automatically included beyond any standard compensation attached to the selected service.
XFlynn will select and book the carrier service, retain proof of lodgement and provide tracking. Buyer-supplied labels, requests to redirect the parcel to an unverified third party, or address changes after dispatch may be refused. The delivery address must match the verified buyer account unless XFlynn approves a change in writing before dispatch.
The buyer should inspect the outer package and contents promptly after delivery. If loss, damage or tampering is suspected, the buyer should keep all packaging, take clear photographs and notify XFlynn as soon as reasonably possible so that any carrier enquiry or claim can be made. XFlynn will reasonably cooperate with a valid carrier claim. Nothing in this section excludes rights that cannot lawfully be excluded.
10. Packaging and special requests
Each parcel is packed according to its size, weight and material. Packaging may include sealed inner bags, moisture-resistant barriers, padding and a rigid outer container. If a listing states that slabs or rough material will be vacuum sealed with a small amount of water, that method forms part of the parcel description.
A winning buyer may request a different reasonable packing or delivery method before payment. XFlynn may accept or decline the request depending on safety, carrier rules and practicality, and any additional cost must be paid before dispatch.
11. Non-payment
If the winning buyer does not pay by the stated deadline and no alternative arrangement has been agreed, XFlynn may cancel that buyer's purchase, suspend the buyer account and offer the parcel again or make another lawful sale arrangement.
12. Platform integrity and technical problems
XFlynn may investigate account activity, suspend bidding, reject an invalid bid, correct an obvious listing error or cancel an auction where there is a genuine technical failure, security incident, suspected manipulation or other circumstance that makes the sale unreliable or unfair. Any material action will be documented and communicated to affected buyers where practical.
13. Contact
Questions about a parcel, account status or these terms should be raised before bidding by contacting XFlynn directly.
